DJ Shimza

DJ Shimza, real name Ashley Raphala, is a South African DJ, producer and entrepreneur born on September 29, 1984 in Tembisa, South Africa. Recognized as one of the leading figures in Afro house, he has made a name for himself with his percussive and melodic productions, combining South African tribal rhythms with modern house sounds. He began his career in electronic music in the mid-2000s, performing in local clubs before making a name for himself on the national and international scene. DJ Shimza is also founder of the Church Ink label, a platform dedicated to promoting Afro house music and young South African talent, as well as the Shimza Live festival, an event that showcases house music with immersive performances. Over the years, he has released several acclaimed EPs and singles, including tracks such as "All Alone " (2018), "Calling Out Your Name " (2020), "Parachute" (2024), and the Dreaming EP (2024), featuring collaborations with DJ Vitoto & Zano, Manana, Kabza de Small and Jnr SA. In 2024, Shimza also collaborated with singer Aloe Blacc on the track "Darling", based on a cover of Ben E. King's classic "Stand by Me". He also collaborated with Elderbrook on "Places", CamelPhat and Idd Aziz on "Bado" and Maline Aura on "Citadelle". In 2025, the track "Fire Fire", featuring AR/CO and Kasango, reached No. 11 in the UK Afrobeats charts.
