Dirty Three

Dirty Three were formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1992 by multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis, guitarist Mick Turner, and drummer Jim White, all of whom were born in the early 1970s and had previously played in various local bands. The trio’s early work began with a self‑titled cassette recorded in Turner’s bedroom, followed by the 1994 eponymous release on Torn & Frayed, which established their distinctive instrumental style. They signed with Anchor & Hope Records and issued Horse Stories in 1996, earning a top three placement in Rolling Stone’s year‑end list, and Ocean Songs in 1998, which peaked in the Australian top 50 and later entered 100 Best Australian Albums in 2010. Subsequent albums included Whatever You Love, You Are (2000), She Has No Strings Apollo (2003), Cinder (2005), Toward the Low Sun (2012), and Love Changes Everything (2024), with the latter marking their first major tour since 2012. The group has toured extensively worldwide, collaborated with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and received an ARIA Award nomination, solidifying their place in contemporary Australian rock history.
