Diane Birch

Diane Birch is an American singer-songwriter born on January 24, 1983, in Michigan. She began her musical journey at the age of seven, learning to play the piano using the Suzuki method. Growing up in a family deeply involved in missionary work, she spent her childhood in various countries including Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Australia, before settling in Portland, Oregon. This diverse cultural exposure influenced her music style which blends elements of soul, pop, and gospel. Early in her career, she moved to Los Angeles with aspirations to compose film music. However, her path shifted when she started performing piano at prestigious venues like the Beverly Hills Hotel. Her talent caught the attention of Prince, who in 2006 invited her to jam with his band. Diane Birch later relocated to London, where she penned most of the songs for her debut album after signing a publishing deal. In 2009, she released her debut album Bible Belt via S-Curve Records. The album, recorded in New York and New Orleans, garnered critical praise and was promoted through a series of appearances on TV shows like The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! After opening for Stevie Wonder at the Hard Rock Calling Festival in 2010, Diane Birch released an EP titled The Velveteen Age in December of that year, which featured covers of songs she enjoyed during her youth. In 2013, she was featured in the song "Rewind" by English rapper Devlin, and released her second album Speak a Little Louder, peaking at number 195 on the Billboard 200. 2016 saw the release of a self-produced mini-album titled Nous, recorded in Berlin. Preceded by the singles "Wind Machine" (2019) and "Used to Lovin' You," her third studio album Flying on Abraham arrived in 2024.
