Dark Star Orchestra

Dark Star Orchestra, a tribute band formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1997, is dedicated to recreating the live concert experience of the Grateful Dead. The band was founded by guitarist John Kadlecik and keyboardist Scott Larned, who shared a concept of performing complete Grateful Dead shows from their extensive history. Dark Star Orchestra gained national attention after Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman of Phish joined them on stage in November 1998. The band has since performed over 3,243 shows as of April 2024. They have collaborated with Grateful Dead alumni, including Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Donna Jean Godchaux‑MacKay, Vince Welnick, and Tom Constanten. Their repertoire includes full set lists drawn from Grateful Dead concerts, adapting their performance to match the specific eras they recreate.
