C-Kan is the stage name of Mexican rapper José Luis Maldonado Ramos (July 26, 1987) who rose to prominence in the 2010s with his autotune-laden brand of Latin hip-hop. Born in Jalisco, Guadalajara, he began rhyming during his adolescence, delivering spine-chilling stories about street life, drugs, and gang-related violence. After featuring on the 2006 group mixtape Get Money, he offered his first solo outing later that year with Déjenme Afinar los Gallos, followed by 2007's Siluetas del Rap and Déjame Afilar los Gallos. The underground success of these mixtapes helped C-Kan land a record deal with the Mastered Trax Latino label, which released his studio debut Voy Por el Sueño de Muchos in 2012. His second full-length Clasificación C, Vol. 1 appeared in 2014 and a second installment saw the light the following year, reaching number 28 in the United States. In 2016, C-Kan made his debut as a composer on the soundtrack of the Mexican-American dramedy Compadres and unveiled the albums MexiCKanos and Días de Sol, a joint effort with Pipo Ti that peaked at number 12 on the US charts. C-Kan expanded his discography in the 2020s with the introspective album Baúl (2020), produced under the 33 & West banner for U.S. and Canadian representation, followed by Mi Canción (2021), both showcasing refined production and melodic depth. He continued the series with Baúl 2 (2023), and in 2024 released the dual albums Cualquier Parecido con la Realidad and ROMA, marking a prolific creative phase that blended reflective lyricism with hard-hitting beats. This renewed output was punctuated by charting collaborations, such as the remix “Por Mi México” (2023) alongside Santa Fe Klan, Dharius, MC Davo, Lefty Sm, and Neto Peña, which reached the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. In 2025, he kept momentum with singles like “Donde estás perra?” and the street anthem “200 pistolas 300 soldados,” further cementing his reputation as a consistent voice in Mexican Latin hip-hop, seamlessly balancing socially conscious themes with mainstream resonance.
