Chris Cain is an American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter, born on November 19, 1955 in San José, California. He was immersed in music from an early age, thanks to his father, a blues enthusiast and record collector, who took him to concerts by icons such as B.B. King and Ray Charles. Chris Cain began playing guitar at the age of eight and quickly showed exceptional talent, later complemented by training in piano, saxophone, bass and music theory at San Jose City College. He came to prominence in the 1980s, playing clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area. He formed his own group, The Chris Cain Band, and in 1987 released his debut album Late Night City Blues, which received rave reviews and was nominated for four Blues Music Awards. This album marked the start of a steady recording career, first with the band on Cuttin' Loose (1990) and Can't Buy a Break (1992), then solo on Somewhere Along the Way (1995), Unscheduled Flight (1997), Cain Does King (2001) and Hall of Shame (2003). His style blends traditional blues, soul, jazz and funk, underpinned by a deep, expressive voice and guitar virtuosity influenced by Albert King, B.B. King, Wes Montgomery and Ray Charles. He records for various labels, including Blind Pig Records, Blue Rock-It and Little Village Foundation. In 2021, he signed to the prestigious Alligator Records label with the album Raisin' Cain, acclaimed for its freshness and mastery. Chris Cain has toured internationally, including Europe, Australia and South America, and is renowned for his ability to convey raw emotion through complex, expressive solos. The album Good Intentions Gone Bad was released in 2024.
