Castle Rat

Castle Rat is an American heavy metal band formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2019. The group is known for combining doom and stoner metal with theatrical stage performances inspired by fantasy, horror, and medieval aesthetics. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Riley Pinkerton, who performs as “The Rat Queen,” the band also includes key members playing under pseudonyms that contribute to its mythological world-building: Maddy Wright as “The Rat Reaperess” (performer), Henry Black as “The Count” (lead guitar), Ronnie Lanzilotta as “The Plague Doctor” (bass), and Joshua Strmic as “The Druid” (drums). Castle Rat gained attention on the New York underground scene for their elaborate live shows featuring costumes, swords, and narrative elements, evoking the spirit of 1970s occult rock and classic doom. Their debut full-length album, Into the Realm (2024), released on King Volume Records, received praise for its blend of heavy riffs, atmospheric storytelling, and cinematic concept. With new members Franco Vittore and Charley Ruddell, respectively replacing Black and Lanzilotta, Castle Rat followed with the sophomore album The Bestiary, released in September 2025.
