Cass McCombs

Cass McCombs, born on November 13, 1977, in Concord, California, is an American musician known for his roles as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and pianist. He began performing with various groups in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1990s. In 2001, McCombs moved to San Francisco and released his debut EP, Not the Way, through Monitor Records. His first full-length album, A, was published in 2003, followed by a Peel Session for John Peel. Cass McCombs toured extensively with bands like OXES and Modest Mouse, and in 2005, he released PREFection on Monitor Records and 4AD. His subsequent albums include Dropping the Writ (2007), which was critically acclaimed, and Catacombs (2009). McCombs has collaborated with notable artists such as John Cale, Ariel Pink, and The Decemberists, and his music has been featured in films like El Presente. He has also performed at festivals including Primavera Sound and Field Day. Released in 2016, Mangy Love was his first album for the ANTI- label, followed by Tip of the Sphere (2019). In 2020, McCombs published his debut poetry collection, Toy Fabels, before working on the album Heartmind (2022), and Mr Greg & Cass McCombs Sing and Play New Folk Songs for Children with a San Francisco school teacher in 2023. In 2024 followed an archival album, Seed Cake on Leap Year, including recordings from 1999-2000. A new album, Interior Live Oak, was released in 2025.
