Carly Rae Jepsen was born on November 21, 1985, in Mission, British Columbia, Canada. After studying at the Canadian College of Performing Arts, she finished third on Canadian Idol in 2007 and signed with 604 Records. Her folk-pop debut album, Tug of War, followed in 2008 and produced the Canadian hits “Tug of War” and “Bucket.” Carly Rae Jepsen’s international breakthrough began with “Call Me Maybe,” first released in 2011 and subsequently included on the 2012 EP Curiosity. After the song attracted support from Justin Bieber, she signed worldwide deals with Schoolboy Records and Interscope Records. “Call Me Maybe” spent nine weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, reached Number 1 in the United Kingdom and became the world’s best-selling single of 2012. Her second album, Kiss, arrived that year and also featured “Good Time,” a collaboration with Owl City. The project earned three Juno Awards, including Album of the Year, Pop Album of the Year and Single of the Year for “Call Me Maybe.” Carly Rae Jepsen made her Broadway debut in 2014, playing the title role in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. She shifted toward 1980s-influenced synth-pop on E•MO•TION in 2015, led by “I Really Like You” and “Run Away with Me”; the album was shortlisted for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize and was followed by the EP E•MO•TION: Side B. She released the dance-pop single “Cut to the Feeling” in 2017 before issuing Dedicated in 2019 and its companion collection, Dedicated Side B, in 2020. Carly Rae Jepsen returned in 2022 with The Loneliest Time, featuring “Western Wind” and the Rufus Wainwright-assisted title track, then released its dance-oriented companion album, The Loveliest Time, in 2023. A tenth-anniversary edition of E•MO•TION followed in 2025 with previously unreleased songs including “More” and “Guardian Angel.” In 2026, Carly Rae Jepsen announced the 24-track double album Day and Night, dividing its psychedelic-pop-influenced “Day” half from the synth-driven “Night” half.
