Calibre

Dominick Martin, born in Belfast, United Kingdom, is a British electronic music producer and DJ known professionally as Calibre. Early exposure to jungle and drum and bass came through his brother in the early 1990s, and Martin began producing in 1995 after being inspired by Goldie and LTJ Bukem. His first single, "Mystic / Feelin" appeared in 2000 on Creative Source, marking his breakthrough when DJ Fabio began playing the tracks on BBC Radio 1’s Liquid Funk and at Swerve club nights.Calibre’s debut album Musique Concrète was released in 2001, followed by Second Sun in 2005, which is frequently cited as a pivotal work in liquid funk. In 2007 he launched the Shelflife series, compiling unreleased material; subsequent volumes appeared in 2008, 2009, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2023. Notable collaborations include "Mr. Majestic" with High Contrast (2004) and "Drop It Down" featuring MC Fats (2004). In 2019, Calibre received the Critics’ Choice award at the Drum&BassArena Awards. His later releases, such as "Double Bend" (2022) and "Rudy" (2023), continued to chart within the drum and bass community. Calibre remains an influential figure in electronic music, with a catalogue that spans over two decades of consistent output. He remained active in 2025 with Little Foot and the vocal-led album They Want You, continuing to blur the line between DJ-focused drum & bass and songwriter-driven electronic music.
