Brian Protheroe, born on June 16, 1944, in Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, is a British singer-songwriter, narrator, and actor. He began his musical journey at twelve by joining a local church choir and starting piano lessons. Inspired by artists like Cliff Richard and the Shadows, Protheroe learned to play the guitar and joined a rock band called the Coasters in 1961. His first single "Pinball", released in August 1974, entered the UK Singles Chart at Number 40 and peaked at Number 22. This breakthrough led to the release of his debut album Pinball later that year. Protheroe's follow-up single "Fly Now" made it onto Capital Radio's Capital Countdown chart. He released two more albums: Pick Up and I/You. In 1976, Protheroe starred in the London production of the rock musical Leave Him to Heaven, shifting his focus to theatre, television, and film. His acting career included roles in productions such as Superman (1978) and various BBC Television Shakespeare productions. Protheroe's music career saw a resurgence with the release of compilations such as Brian's Big Box (1997) and Pinball and Other Stories (2006). He continued to release albums, including Desert Road (2020), Hot Spot Melodies (2021), A Salisbury Boy (2023), and The Last Serenade (2024).
