Birds of Tokyo

Birds of Tokyo are an Australian alternative rock band formed in Perth in 2004. Consisting of lead singer Ian Kenny, guitarist Adam Spark, bassist Anthony Jackson, and drummer Adam Weston, the group was born from the ashes of two popular underground rock acts from Perth: Tragic Delicate and Karnivool. After releasing an eponymous EP in 2005, they made their studio debut in 2007 with the album Day One, which won them nationwide recognition and reached Number 3 on the AIR Independent Albums chart, staying in the Top 10 for 36 consecutive weeks. More success followed with their 2008 sophomore effort Universes and 2009’s Birds of Tokyo, both of which cracked the Australian Top 5 and earned the band numerous awards and accolades. Preceded by the Top 10 radio hit “Lanterns,” their fourth full-length March Fires (2013) became their first Number 1 record on the ARIA charts and was certified platinum shortly after. In the following years, Brace (2016) peaked at Number 3 in Australia and Human Design (2020) snatched the top spot on the domestic charts. In 2021, Birds of Tokyo returned with the single “Superglue,” a collaboration with pop punk band Stand Atlantic.
