Bibio

Born Stephen James Wilkinson on 4 December 1978 in Wolverhampton, in the West Midlands, England, Bibio became associated with the folktronica movement of the mid-2000s, marrying electronics with folk. He discovered an affinity for adventurous music during his sonic arts studies at Middlesex University and it was here that he first began experimenting with his own sound, making lo-fi recordings on vintage analogue equipment while playing around with fingerpicking and unconventional guitar techniques. Following the release of his first two albums, debut fi for Mush Records in 2005 and its 2006 successor, Hand Cranked, he reached his creative zenith with 2007's "Ambivalence Avenue," which later formed the title track of his fourth record. Released in 2009 on Warp, the LP showcased his falsetto vocals while drawing critical acclaim. By this point, he had begun pushing his style outside the realms of folktronica, adding notes of synth-pop, indie-pop, soul and alt-R&B like those heard on 2011's Mind Bokeh. He went on to drop albums at a consistent rate during the 2010s, taking in Silver Wilkinson in 2013, A Mineral Love in 2016, Phantom Brickworks in 2016, and Ribbons in 2019, all released via Warp. His tenth studio album, Bib10, came in 2022 and the Sunbursting EP, which included the track "Shine A Light On Your Mirror," arrived in 2023.
