Baek Ya-Sung

Baek Ya-seong (born Moon Seok-jun on September 7, 1934, in Gimhae, Gyeongsangnam-do – died October 2, 2016, in Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do) was a renowned South Korean trot singer and lyricist. He debuted in 1957 and became a leading figure in Korea’s early popular music scene, leaving behind numerous hit songs such as “Farewell, Busan Port,”(1961) “American Mariner,” (1964) “Harbor No. 0,” (1962) and “My Pitiful Youth.” (1962) Known for his powerful voice and emotive delivery, Baek's music resonated with audiences during a time of great social change in Korea. In his later years, he remained active in the entertainment industry, frequently appearing on KBS's Gayo Stage alongside other veteran artists like Ahn Da-seong, Myung Guk-hwan, and Nam Baek-song. Baek Ya-seong is remembered as a pioneering artist who helped shape the golden age of Korean trot music.
