Avicii

DJ and EDM producer Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii, was born on September 8, 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden. He began producing his own house songs and remixes in his own room at the age of 16 and publishing them on the internet. The artist's name is derived from the deepest level of Buddhist hell. As the name was already taken on the social media platform MySpace, he added another "i". After making a name for himself in the scene online and with his first releases and chart entries, he performed at the renowned Tomorrowland festival in Belgium in 2011, where he played the previously unreleased song "Levels". After signing with major label Universal Music, the song with the Etta James vocal sample was released and entered the top 10 in 16 countries. In 2013, he released his debut album True, which, alongside the hits "Hey Brother" (feat. Dan Tyminski) and "Addicted to You" (feat. Audra Mae), was characterized above all by the global hit "Wake Me Up". The track with Aloe Blacc's distinctive singing voice has sold over 13 million copies in total and reached number 1 in the charts in ten countries. In 2014, it also won the Echo as "Hit of the Year". In the same year, the singles "The Days" with Robbie Williams and "The Nights" with RAS were released, which also achieved great chart success. 2015 saw the release of Avicii's second studio album Stories, whose single "Waiting for Love" (feat. Martin Garrix and Simon Aldred) went platinum in Germany and reached number 1 in the charts in Austria. The subsequent EP AVĪCI (01) from 2017 produced the singles "Without You" (feat. Sandro Cavazza) and "Lonely Together" (feat. Rita Ora), both of which went platinum in Germany. Avicii died in April 2018 at the age of 28. His third album Tim was released a year later. All proceeds from the release went to the Tim Bergling Foundation, a charity set up by his parents in their son's name to combat the stigmatization of mental health problems and suicide, among other things. In May 2025, the compilation Avicii Forever is released. The album reaches No. 2 in Sweden, No. 9 in Switzerland and No. 18 in Germany, and also enters the charts in the UK at No. 20.
