Allie X

Alexandra Ashley Hughes, known professionally as Allie X, was born on July 31, 1985, in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. She developed an early interest in piano classical, opera, and musical theater, studying at the Sheridan University of Oakville and the Interlochen Arts Center in Michigan. In the mid-2000s, Hughes began her music career performing in Toronto bars and clubs, releasing her first independent album Waiting for the Prize in 2006. Her breakthrough came with the single "Catch" in February 2014, which garnered attention from Katy Perry and Time magazine. This led to a contract with Universal Music and Sleepless Records. Allie X released her debut EP CollXtion I in April 2015, followed by CollXtion II in June 2017. Notable singles include "Too Much to Dream" and "Paper Love". Following the release of the Super Sunset EP in October 2018, and an analog version in January 2019, Allie X worked on her fourth full-length Cape God, dropped in February 2020. She delivered the live recording Cape God (The Digital Concert) in February 2021. Over the next two years, she wrote and produced her fifth album, Girl with No Face (February 2024), which was acclaimed by critics before being longtlisted for the 2024 Polaris Prize. In November 2025, Allie X released her sixth album, Happiness Is Going to Get You.
