The Cantopop singer, actor, and TV host Alex To was born as "Alejandro Delfino" in Hong Kong, China, on February 10, 1962. As a teenager, he studied abroad in Vancouver, British Columbia, before returning to Hong Kong, where he graduated from college in 1985. That same year, he participated in the New Talent Singing Awards competition, which he won. The victory earned To a spot on the roster of Capital Artists, and he released his debut album 華星新秀新節奏 in 1986. Two additional Cantonese albums, 只想留下 and 等待黎明, followed in 1987. While continuing to release pop albums in Cantonese, Alex To also entered into the Mandarin market with 1990's 談情說愛 . He began nurturing a burgeoning career as an actor, too, which he launched with a minor role in the 1988 action film The Inspector Wears Skirts. The film was produced by martial arts icon Jackie Chan, and the two collaborated once again with 1995's international hit Rumble in the Bronx. Alex To appeared in two more films that same year — Mack the Knife and Heaven Can't Wait — and began shifting his business operations to Taiwan, where his 1999 solo album 99 Lover became a Top 10 hit. Although he focused more heavily on his acting career during the 2000s, To continued to chart hit songs in Asian, with "无心伤害" reaching Number 23 on the Top 100 Deezer chart in Malaysia in early 2023.
