9ice

Akande Abolore Adegbola Alexander, known professionally as 9ice, was born on January 17, 1980, in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Nigeria. 9ice is a singer and songwriter known for the use of the Yoruba language and proverbial lyrics. In 2000, 9ice released the first official solo song, “Little Money”. A breakthrough followed with the release of the single “Gongo Aso” (2008), which led to a performance at the Nelson Mandela 90th Birthday Tribute concert in London. Awards include Best Hip Hop Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards (2008) and Album of the Year at the Hip Hop World Awards (2009). Discography releases include Certificate (2007), Gongo Aso (2008), Tradition (2009), Tip of the Iceberg: Episode 1 (2020), and Tip of the Iceberg II (2022).
