213

213 was formed in Long Beach, California, by the trio of Snoop Dogg, Warren G, and Nate Dogg, who had already established themselves in the West Coast hip‑hop scene. The group’s name, pronounced “Two One Three,” references the original 213 telephone area code that covered Long Beach. Their breakthrough came with the single "Ain't No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None)" from Snoop Dogg’s 1993 debut Doggystyle, which showcased the trio’s collaborative chemistry. In 1994 the group released the St. Ides EP, but no further group material followed until their sole studio album The Hard Way, issued on 17 August 2004 under TVT and Doggystyle; the album peaked at number 4 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and spawned singles such as "Groupie Luv" and "So Fly". Throughout the 2000s the members continued to appear on each other’s solo projects and in various compilations, but 213 remained a one‑album act. The group’s activity ceased with the death of Nate Dogg on 15 March 2011 in Long Beach, California, from complications of multiple strokes, effectively disbanding the ensemble. The album The Hard Way achieved Gold certification in the United States, reflecting its commercial impact within the West Coast rap genre.
