CarbonWorks, an innovative musical project, was founded by Neal Barnard, a North Dakota-born musician with a lifelong passion for avant-garde music. Since the 1980s, Barnard has been writing and recording music that defies categorization, featuring unconventional time meters, lyrics in French or Latin, and unique blends of jazz, rock, and classical music. In 2016, CarbonWorks launched its eponymous debut album with a release party hosted by Alec Baldwin and Maggie Q. The live performance included vocalists from Italy, France, and the U.S., as well as rock and classical instrumentalists. Recently, CarbonWorks released their second album, Vanishing Act, which showcases Barnard's signature sound that transcends traditional genres. The album includes a diverse range of tracks, such as the alt-rock song ""Training That Works,"" the jazz fusion song ""Athena,"" and the punk-inspired track, ""Marie Osmole,"" that rolls in a jazzy saxophone riff, a slower bluesy beat and a sultry French lyric. CarbonWorks’ latest music video, “Nemesis,” shows scenes from Churchill Downs, host of the Kentucky Derby. Barnard calls the video “a poetic exposé of horse racing and the cruel underbelly beneath the veneer of glamour.” Whether you’re a horse-racing fan or not, music fans can certainly appreciate the creative piece.
