Yūko Imai

Yuko Imai is a Japanese singer-songwriter born on October 21, 1967, in Tokyo. She made her debut in 1987 with the single "Kanashimi no Pavement" under King Records. Her breakthrough came in 1988 with "Nijiiro no Aura", the theme song for the TBS drama Mama no Iroenpitsu, composed by Tetsuya Komuro. In 1990, she released the album DO AWAY produced by Toshiki Kadomatsu and later gained attention with her cover of Lovin' You, featured as a theme for another TBS drama. In 1994, she switched to the Starland label and released DISCLOSE, focusing on live performances afterward. Following her self-produced 1997 album Living Color, she took a hiatus, working as a vocal coach during that time. She returned in 2007 with I WISH… and garnered attention in 2008 for the song "Boku ga Soba ni Iru kara…", written to comfort pet loss, which gained media coverage and later reached No. 2 on the USEN indie chart in 2012. In 2022, she marked her 35th anniversary with the album Spell of Love, followed by her 2023 release Reminiscence, reflecting her enduring presence in Japan’s pop and AOR scene.
