Y&T, originally known as Yesterday and Today, is an American heavy metal band formed in Oakland, California in 1972. The group initially consisted of Leonard Haze on drums, Wayne Stitzer on piano, Bob Gardner on bass, and Dave Meniketti on guitar and vocals. After several lineup changes, including the addition of Joey Alves on rhythm guitar and Phil Kennemore on bass, the band began to compose original material. Y&T released their first two studio albums, Yesterday & Today (1976) and Struck Down (1978), under London Records. After signing with A&M Records in 1980, they shortened their name to Y&T and released several albums including Earthshaker (1981), Black Tiger (1982), and Mean Streak (1983). Their breakthrough album was In Rock We Trust (1984), which peaked at number 46 on the Billboard 200 and included their most successful single, "Don't Stop Runnin'", as well as "She's a Liar". This album also saw significant success in Canada reaching number 77. The band went through several lineup changes over the years but continued to release albums like Musically Incorrect (1995), Endangered Species (1997) and Facemelter (2010). Noteworthy members included Stef Burns, who joined in 1989 and later left to join Huey Lewis and the News, and Mike Vanderhule, who became a permanent member in 2006. Tragically, bassist Phil Kennemore passed away in January 2011, followed by drummer Leonard Haze in 2016. The band has had over four million album sales worldwide.
