Yekwon Sunwoo

Yekwon Sunwoo, born on February 10, 1989 in Anyang, South Korea, is a classical pianist. He began studying piano at age eight, inspired by his two older sisters. In 2004, at 15 years old, he gave his first recital and made his orchestral debut in Seoul. Sunwoo studied with Min-ja Shin and Sun-wha Kim before moving to the United States to attend the Curtis Institute of Music. His career breakthrough came in 2017 when he won the gold medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, becoming the first Korean to achieve this milestone. This victory led to a live album release, Cliburn Gold 2017, and performances with notable orchestras such as the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
