Xu Wei, born 21 July 1968 in China, is a Chinese rock singer whose early life saw him take up guitar at sixteen and win a firstâplace prize in an Xiâan guitar contest in 1986. After leaving university entrance exams to pursue music, he served in the Peopleâs Liberation Army from 1987 to 1990, composing popâoriented songs during that period. Xu Wei emerged as a prominent guitarist in 1993 with the formation of the band é£ (Vuela), later transitioning to a solo career that combined rock energy with pop sensibilities. His debut studio album æ¯ä¸å»é½æ¯å¶æ°ç was released in December 2004, followed by å¨è·¯ä¸ in February 2006 and æå¦å°å¹´ in October 2008, each receiving favorable chart positions in the Chinese rock scene. In 2015, a live recording titled æ¤æ¶æ¤å» captured his concert performances, and his most recent studio effort, ç¡ç¡å è, arrived in December 2018. Throughout his career, Xu Wei has toured extensively across China, collaborating with notable musicians in the rock genre, and has earned recognition for his contributions to contemporary Chinese rock, with several singles achieving top positions on national music charts.
