The darling of the English press since its formation in London in the early 2010s, the Wolf Alice band is the brainchild of singer Ellie Rowsell. It started out as an acoustic trio with Sadie Cleary (bass) and Joff Oddie (guitar), before taking a clear alternative rock direction by consolidating the rhythm section with the arrival of Joel Amey in 2012. Following the release of two EPs, Blush (2013) and Creature Songs (2014), the London-based outfit took their time to perfect their catchy rock melodies and give shape to their debut album My Love Is Cool (2015). The album received rave reviews in the press and on radio, and was nominated for several awards (Mercury Prize, Brit Awards, Grammy Awards), but failed to win any trophies. After writing a track for the remake of the film Ghostbusters, Wolf Alice moves to Los Angeles to record her second album Visions of a Life (2017) with producer Justin Meldal-Johnson. At the start of 2021, the band unveils a new track, entitled "The Last Man on Earth", and at the same time announces the imminent release of Blue Weekend, a third album produced by Markus Dravs and released in June 2021. Just as acclaimed as its predecessor, it was nominated for the Mercury Prize and followed in October by an expanded edition, Blue Weekend Tour Deluxe, including four live tracks and a cover of Alex G's "Bobby". In 2022, Wolf Alice won the Brit Award for Group of the Year and recorded a new, softer version of "The Last Man on Earth", included in the EP of lullaby-like versions, Blue Lullaby. After touring with Harry Styles, the band signs with Columbia Records and records a fourth album, The Clearing (2025), which differs from its predecessors but nevertheless reached No. 1 on release. It is in a soft rock vein with strings, and includes the singles "Boom Baby Bloom" (No. 65), "The Sofa" and "White Horses " (No. 20 on the Billboard Japan chart).
