Wintersleep

Wintersleep, a Canadian indie rock band, was formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2001 by vocalist and guitarist Paul Murphy, guitarist and keyboardist Tim d'Eon, and drummer Loel Campbell. The band released their self-titled debut album Wintersleep in April 2003 through Dependent Music. In 2005, they opened for Pearl Jam in St. John's, Newfoundland. Their third album, Welcome to the Night Sky, was released in October 2007 and won them a Juno Award for New Group of the Year in 2008. Wintersleep's song "Weighty Ghost" gained significant exposure through its use in various media, including the film One Week and TV series Cracked. Wintersleep followed that rise with New Inheritors (2010) and Hello Hum (2012), then opened another chapter after signing with Dine Alone for The Great Detachment (2016), a record led by "Amerika," their biggest Canadian rock hit since "Weighty Ghost," and shortlisted for the 2017 Juno Award for Adult Alternative Album of the Year. They returned in 2019 with In the Land Of, led by "Surrender," "Beneficiary," and "Forest Fire," with the album landing on the Polaris Music Prize long list and earning Music Nova Scotia recognition. After a quieter early-2020s stretch, Wintersleep resurfaced with the stand-alone single "Fool for a Life" in 2024 and then with Wishing Moon in 2026, their first album in six years, followed by touring in the U.K., Europe, and Canada.
