Born Joachim Guillaume Lamothe on January 27, 1920 in Saint-Hugues, Quebec, and died on October 19, 1992 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Willie Lamothe was a Canadian country singer and actor. He learned to play guitar and wrote his first songs during his military service. After the war, he sang on weekends while working in a factory during the week. He released his first singles in 1946, " Je suis un cowboy canadien " and " Je chante à cheval ", which quickly became radio hits in Quebec. He then decided to devote his career exclusively to country songs, developing the theme of rural life in his compositions. In 1948, he released the song " Allô allô petit Michel ", to mark the birth of his son Michel, which achieved record sales for the time. He appeared on many radio and television programs, and performed at many venues in Canada and the United States. In the 1950s, he opened for Gene Autry at the Montreal Forum and sang in Nashville (USA). In 1967, he teamed up with guitarist Bobby Hachey, with whom he shared the stage for several years. From 1970 to 1976, he had his own weekly TV show, Le Ranch à Willie , where he reached out to country music fans. In the same decade, Willie Lamothe was cast in several films, including Bingo, La Mort d'un Bûcheron, La Vraie Nature and Mustang . In 1983, he released his last career album, Je Reviens . After his death in 1992, a park was named in his honor in Saint-Hyacinthe, where he died.
