William Onyeabor

William Onyeabor, born William Ezechukwu Onyeabor on March 26, 1945, in Enugu, Nigeria, was a Nigerian funk musician. Born into a poor family, he became financially successful enough to study record production in Europe. Upon returning to Nigeria in the 1970s, Onyeabor founded his own music label, Wilfilms, and built a recording studio. Between 1977 and 1985, he released several albums and singles, including Crashes in Love (1977), Atomic Bomb (1978), and "Better Change Your Mind", which became one of his most recognized songs. His style blended funk, Afrobeat, and electronic music, often featuring synthesizers and drum computers. Onyeabor's work gained recognition through compilations like Who Is William Onyeabor? (2013) and tributes by Atomic Bomb! Band who performed his music at concerts and festivals worldwide in 2014. Onyeabor passed away on January 16, 2017, at the age of 70.
