Wayne Toups

Wayne Toups is an American Cajun and zydeco musician born in the United States in 1958. Toups began playing the accordion at age 13 and created a genre known as “Zydecajun”, which combines Cajun music, zydeco, R&B, and rock. Their debut album, Wayne Toups and the Crowley Aces, was released in Europe in 1979. Toups gained popularity in the United States in 1984 through performances at festivals such as Festivals Acadiens. Their recordings include Zydecajun (1986), Johnnie Can't Dance (1988), and Blast from the Bayou (1989), the latter of which reached number 183 on the charts. Toups received the Song of the Year award from the Cajun French Music Association in 1991 for the song “Late in Life”. Their discography includes Back to the Bayou (1995), More Than Just a Little (1998), and Little Wooden Box (2000). Toups performed as an accordionist on the single “It Sure Is Monday” (1993) by Mark Chesnutt. Toups received a Grammy Award in 2013.
