Wagon Christ

Luke Vibert (born 26 January 1973 in Redruth, Cornwall) the British producer and DJ widely known for his work under the moniker Wagon Christ, has earned a reputation as one of the most innovative and versatile figures in electronic music. With a career spanning over three decades, his influence on genres like IDM, acid house, and experimental hip-hop is immeasurable, and his unique blend of quirky melodies, complex rhythms, and eclectic samples has garnered a dedicated global following. He was immersed in music from a young age, initially exploring jazz and hip-hop before diving into the emerging electronic scene of the early 1990s, attending the same school as associates of Aphex Twin's Rephlex Records. Under the Wagon Christ alias, he became known for his whimsical, sample-driven style, combining elements of funk, jazz, and experimental electronic music, first releasing Phat Lab Nightmare under the alias Wagon Christ in 1993. His 2001 album Musipal, released on the iconic Ninja Tune label, is considered a defining work in the IDM genre, showcasing his distinct ability to blend complex, glitchy textures with catchy, funk-infused grooves. He continued to build on his glitchy, trip-hop palette with further Wagon Christ releases such as 2004's Sorry I Make You Lush and 2011's Toomorrow.
