Viviane Katrina Louise Albertine, born 1â¯Decemberâ¯1954 in Newâ¯Southâ¯Wales, Sydney, was a guitarist, songwriter, singer and writer whose career began in the London punk scene. After studying at Hornsey and Chelsea Schools of Art, she joined the Flowers of Romance and then the allâfemale band The Slits in 1977, contributing to their two studio albums and touring extensively. In 2009 she resumed performing solo, issuing the EP Flesh (2010) and the album The Vermilion Border (2012) on Cadiz Music; the single "Home Sweet Home (At Christmas)" followed in 2010. Viv Albertine also directed television and film projects for the BBC and British Film Institute, and authored memoirs published in 2014 and 2018. Her work remains influential in punk and alternative music history.
