Vittorio Negri

Vittorio Negri was born on October 16, 1923, in Milan, Italy. He studied at the Milan Conservatory and Salzburg Mozarteum, becoming an assistant conductor under Bernhard Paumgartner in 1952. Negri initially worked on critical editions for I Musici before transitioning to record production with Philips in the late 1950s. He produced numerous classical recordings and conducted orchestras such as the Berlin Chamber Orchestra and Dresden Staatskapelle, focusing extensively on Antonio Vivaldi's works. His notable projects included a recording cycle of Antonio Vivaldi's sacred music between 1974 and 1979. Negri received four Grammy Awards for his work with Giovanni Gabrieli and Colin Davis. He led a chamber orchestra in Perugia during the 1980s and was the founder of the Italian Society of Musicology. Negri passed away on April 9, 1998.
