Victor Thompson

The Nigerian singer Victor Thompson was born in Lagos on November 11, 1986. A talented singer since his childhood, he began performing professionally in 2005, developing a blend of gospel, soul, and Afro-pop that made him a household name across multiple African countries. This popularity increased in 2017, when he participated in the second season of The Voice Nigeria. Although he didn't win the competition, his appearance on African television gave him a broader platform from which to release new music. After releasing the single "Miyeruwe" in 2018, he returned in 2021 with "Dependable God (Medley)," which became his signature song. Earning more than six million digital streams on Spotify alone, "Dependable God (Medley)" was followed by a handful of stand-alone singles through 2022, including "Thank You," "Spontaneous Endless Worship," "20Minutes of Deep Worship," "Urhobo/Isoko Worship Medley," and "Let Your Name be Glorified Worship Medley." In total, Thompson released more than a dozen recordings that year, with "Not Moved" and "You Make All Things Beautiful (Piano Session)" both earning more than one million streams on Spotify. He returned in 2023 with a new hit single, "This Year (Blessings)," which found him collaborating with Ehis "D" Greatest. The song's original recording was a viral hit that racked up more than eight million streams during its first few months of release and also reached Number 96 on the Apple Music chart in France. A number of remixes followed.
