Vicki Ann Axelrad, known professionally as Vicki Lawrence, was born on March 26, 1949, in Inglewood, California. She is an American singer, actress, and comedian who began her career through a chance encounter with Carol Burnett. Before her acting debut, she was part of the musical group The Young Americans, gaining experience from touring and performing at notable events. Vicki Lawrence's breakthrough in music came in 1973 with the release of "The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia", which reached Number 1 on both the United States and Canada charts. This success led to her first album, The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia. The following year, she released her second album, Ships in the Night, which included hits like "He Did With Me" and "Ships in the Night". Vicki Lawrence's music career continued with the release of Newborn Woman in 1979. She also had notable singles such as "Your Lies". In 2014, her complete Bell Recordings were compiled into The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia: The Complete Bell Recordings.
