Vertical Horizon, an American alternative rock band, were formed in 1991 in Washington, D.C., by Matt Scannell and Keith Kane while they were students at Georgetown University. The duo released their debut album, There and Back Again, in 1992 after relocating to Boston. They toured extensively as a duo before returning to the Washington, D.C. area to record their second album, Running on Ice, in 1995. In 1998, Vertical Horizon signed with RCA Records, who re-released their independent albums with new packaging. The band's breakthrough came with their major-label debut, Everything You Want, released in June 1999. The album featured the hit single "Everything You Want", which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2000. Other notable singles from the album include "You're a God" and "Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)". The band released Go in September 2003, followed by Burning the Days in September 2009, which featured contributions from Neil Peart of Rush. Vertical Horizon continued with Echoes from the Underground in October 2013 and The Lost Mile in February 2018. The band are known for its enduring popularity in adult contemporary music, with several of their songs remaining staples on radio stations. Vertical Horizon continued touring into the 2020s.
