Vanessa Bell Armstrong, born Vanessa Bell on October 2, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, is an American gospel and soul singer. She began her musical journey directing the choir at her father's church, Greater Mount Everett Church of God in Christ. Armstrong released her debut album Peace Be Still in 1983, which included her signature song "Peace Be Still". Her second album, Chosen, reached Number One on the US Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. In 1987, she signed with Jive Records and released her self-titled album featuring the hit single "You Bring Out The Best in Me" . Armstrong's 1986 album Following Jesus won a Soul Train Music Award for Best Gospel Album â Solo. She has been nominated seven times for Grammy Awards, winning a Stellar Award and a Soul Train Award. In 2007, she released Walking Miracle, which blended traditional gospel with contemporary songs.
