Ulf Gerhard Lundell was born on 20â¯Novemberâ¯1949 in Stockholm, Sweden and emerged as a prolific rock singer, songwriter, poet and author. His early years were shaped by a modest upbringing in Stockholm and Saltsjö-Boo, where he received his first guitar at age ten and began writing songs and poems that he sent to record labels; early rejections from MNW, Silence and EMI were followed by a breakthrough when EMI signed him in Octoberâ¯1974, leading to his debut LP VargmÃ¥ne in 1975, which instantly positioned him as âSwedenâs Bob Dylanâ and established a career marked by both musical and literary output. After the release of Törst in 1976 and the live album Natten Hade Varit Mild Och Ãm in 1977, Lundell continued to build a catalog that blended introspective lyrics with rock instrumentation, producing NÃ¥dens à r (1978) and Ripp Rapp (1979) before the 1980 release of Längre InÃ¥t Landet recorded in England; the 1982 album Kär Och Galen featured the enduring hit "Ãppna Landskap" and the duet with Agnetha Fältskog, "Snön Fallar och Vi Med Den", propelling Lundell to fourâtimes platinum status. The midâ1980s saw the critically acclaimed Den Vassa Eggen (1985) amid personal turmoil, followed by Det Goda Livet (1987) and the spiritually infused Evangeline (1988) after his conversion and baptism. The late 1980s and 1990s were marked by a steady output of studio and live releases-including MÃ¥ne Ãver Haväng (1992), Xavante (1994), and the double albums PÃ¥ Andra Sidan Drömmarna and Bosnia (1996)-alongside novels such as Saknaden (1992), Friheten (1999), and Värmen (2005), underscoring his dual career as a writer. In the 2000s Lundell achieved chart success with Club Zebra (2002), which reached number one in Sweden, and released a trilogy of albums (Ok Baby Ok, Högtryck, Lazarus) in 2005, followed by Omaha (2008) and Unplugged Solo (2011). Subsequent releases, including Rent Förbannat (2012), Trunk (2013), and HemÃ¥t Genom Rift Valley 1975â2015 (2015), continued to chart in Sweden and solidified his status as a mainstay of Swedish rock. Lundellâs career is characterized by consistent album releases, notable collaborations, and a significant literary presence, with achievements such as multiple gold and platinum certifications, a sustained presence on Swedish charts, and recognition as a central figure in Swedish rock music throughout his active years.
