TRU, an abbreviation of The Real Untouchables, was an American hip-hop group formed in 1989, with members hailing from New Orleans, Louisiana and Richmond, California. Initially consisting of a dozen members including Master P, C-Murder, Silkk the Shocker, King George, Fonzo, Calli G, Markest Banks, Daniel Fry, Big Ed, Daria Kelly, Ea-Ski, and CMT, the group began their career with the release of Understanding the Criminal Mind in 1992. The album was released under No Limit Records, a label founded by Master P, and set the tone for TRU's signature sound, which blended G-funk rhythms with hardcore gangsta lyrics. Over time, the lineup dwindled to just the three brothers: Master P, C-Murder, and Silkk the Shocker. The group released six albums, incorporating G-funk rhythms married to hardcore gangsta lyrics. Notable releases include "I Always Feel Like" from Tru 2 Da Game (1997) and The Truth (2005), which featured Halleluyah after C-Murder's imprisonment in 2003, following a murder conviction that resulted in a life sentence. The group disbanded following the release of Best Of Tru in November 2005, marking the end of their active career. The group's impact on southern hip-hop is evident in their influence on subsequent generations of artists, particularly those associated with the No Limit Records label.
