Tripping Daisy was formed in Dallas, Texas, in 1990 by lead vocalist and guitarist Tim DeLaughter, drummer Jeff Bouck, guitarist Wes Berggren, and bassist Mark Pirro. The group's early sound blended rock with neoâpsychedelic textures, and their first single, "Lost and Found", gained moderate local radio play. After a series of local performances, the band released their debut album Bill on Dragon Street Records in 1992, which was later reissued by Island Records. In 1995 the band issued the single "Piranha" and the album I Am an Elastic Firecracker, featuring the MTVâplayed track "I Got a Girl"; the album reached US sales of 300,000 copies and was certified Platinum. Subsequent releases included Jesus Hits Like the Atom Bomb in 1998 and a selfâtitled album in 2000. The group disbanded on December 14, 1999 after the untimely death of guitarist Wes Berggren, who died of a drug overdose on October 27, 1999. Posthumous material saw Tripping Daisy issued after Berggren's death, and the band's work has been cited in regional rankings, such as the Dallas Observer's 100 Best Texas Songs list. In 2017 the remaining members reunited for the Homegrown Festival, and in 2024 the band officially reformed, announcing plans to tour and record a new album.
