Toshifumi Hinata, born 23â¯Februaryâ¯1955 in Tokyo, Japan, is a Japanese composer and DJ whose work spans ambient and electronic music. After completing high school at Gakushuin in 1973, he studied in the United Kingdom and later in the United States, attending Northland College, Berklee College of Music, and the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he deepened his classical piano training and compositional techniques. His professional breakthrough came in 1985 with the release of the album Sarahâs Crime under Alpha Records, followed by Summer Cat (1986) and Reality in Love (1986). Over the next decade he issued a series of albumsâincluding STORY (1987) and COLOR OF THE SEASONS (1996)âand collaborated with artists such as Miho Nakayama and KOKIA, while composing music for television series like Tokyo Love Story and Au nom de lâamour. In the 2000s and 2020s, he continued to release work, including Broken Belief inâ¯2019 and the "Two Menuets" single in 2021.
