Toshifumi Hinata

Toshifumi Hinata, born 23 February 1955 in Tokyo, Japan, is a Japanese composer and DJ whose work spans ambient and electronic music. After completing high school at Gakushuin in 1973, he studied in the United Kingdom and later in the United States, attending Northland College, Berklee College of Music, and the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he deepened his classical piano training and compositional techniques. His professional breakthrough came in 1985 with the release of the album Sarah’s Crime under Alpha Records, followed by Summer Cat (1986) and Reality in Love (1986). Over the next decade he issued a series of albums—including STORY (1987) and COLOR OF THE SEASONS (1996)—and collaborated with artists such as Miho Nakayama and KOKIA, while composing music for television series like Tokyo Love Story and Au nom de l’amour. In the 2000s and 2020s, he continued to release work, including Broken Belief in 2019 and the "Two Menuets" single in 2021.
