Tomomi Kahara, born Tomomi Shimogawara on August 17, 1974, in Tokyo, Japan, is a Japanese pop singer. Before her music career, she worked as a model and appeared in fashion magazines such as CanCam and Vivi, as well as various TV shows. Kahara's breakthrough came in late 1995 with the release of her first single "Keep Yourself Alive", which peaked at number 8 on the charts. She gained significant popularity with her second single "I Believe" and her debut album Love Brace (1996), which sold over 2.5 million copies. Throughout the late 1990s, Kahara collaborated extensively with Tetsuya Komuro, releasing several successful albums including Storytelling (1997). However, her popularity began to decline in 1998 due to a range of public and personal issues. After leaving her record company, she resumed her career at Warner Music Japan, working with various producers on albums such as One Fine Day (1999) and Love Again (2001). In 2004, Kahara signed with Universal Music Japan and she returned to the spotlight in 2006 with a musical performance and a photobook. After a hiatus from 2007 due to personal issues, Kahara announced her comeback in 2011 and released new music including "Dreamed a Dream" (2013) and MEMORIES -Kahara Covers- (2014).
