Hwang Young Min, known professionally as Tim, was born on 23 December 1981 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Raised in a Christian family with his father serving as a local pastor, he was surrounded by music from an early age, picking up instruments such as the saxophone and piano. He began his musical journey performing in school and church settings before being discovered by a talent agency. Prior to his singing career, he hosted a documentary series on MTV Korea called Tim The World, which focused on young talents' rise to fame. His music career began when he was 20 years old after moving to South Korea. His debut album, Volume 1 - First ì민 (First TIM) (released March 2003), featured the hit single "I Love You" and received significant local attention. Tim kept the momentum going with subsequent albums such as Volume 2 - Second Breath (June 2004) and Volume 3 - TIM (ê°ì±) (April 2006). His collaborations with notable songwriters like Yoon Sang helped shape his musical style. Throughout his career, he appeared on various Korean variety shows, including Love Letter, X-Man, and Star Golden Bell. He continued to put out music in the 2020s, releasing singles such as 2024's "Mended" with Captain Planet.
