Theodor Karl Mackeben, known as Theo Mackeben, and born on January 5, 1897, in PreuÃisch Stargard, West Prussia, Germany, was a pianist, conductor, and composer. He studied music at the Cologne Academy of Music and in Warsaw from 1916 to 1920. After performing as a concert pianist, Mackeben moved to Berlin, where he played piano at various venues. His breakthrough came when he served as the conductor for the premiere of The Threepenny Opera in 1928. Throughout his career, Mackeben composed music for numerous films and stage productions, notably the operetta Die Dubarry, which premiered in 1931. He also wrote music for the film Bel Ami (1939). During World War II, he was listed on the Gottbegnadeten-Liste of the Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda in 1944. After the war, he continued his work as a musical director at the Berlin Metropol-Theater from 1946 to 1948. Theo Mackeben died on January 10, 1953, in Berlin.
