The White Buffalo

Jake Smith is the American singer‑songwriter who performs as The White Buffalo. Raised in Oregon, Smith developed an early interest in country and punk rock, and later honed his baritone vocal style influenced by Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. His first recorded work appeared on the 2002 self‑released Hogtied Like a Rodeo, followed by the The White Buffalo EP in 2005, which showcased acoustic folk and country blues themes. In 2008 Smith re‑recorded his debut as Hogtied Revisited, blending folk, modern rock and alternative country. The White Buffalo signed with Unison Music Group in 2012, releasing Once Upon a Time in the West and Shadows, Greys, and Evil Ways (2013), the latter earning positive reviews for its folk‑blues fusion. Love and the Death of Damnation (2015) expanded stylistically with Latin, jazz and soul elements. In 2017 he issued Darkest Darks, Lightest Lights, a more electrified alternative‑rock record. His most recent studio effort, On the Widow's Walk (2020), continued his roots‑rock trajectory. Throughout his career, Smith’s songs have appeared in television series such as Sons of Anarchy, Californication, Longmire, and This Is Us, and in films including Shelter and Logan. The White Buffalo has toured nationally and internationally with acts such as Ryan Bingham, Jack Johnson, and Grace Potter, solidifying his presence in the American roots‑music scene.
