The Ventures

The Ventures are an American pop/rock band that became huge in America in the 1960s and sustained ongoing popularity around the world, particularly in Japan. Their 1960 single 'Walk, Don't Run', which in 2006 was inducted into the Grammy Awards Hall of Fame, won them wide popularity and they became one of the most influential so-called "surf bands" on America's west coast. They have gone through several line-up changes over the years since they began with guitarists Don Wilson and Bob Bogie, who died in 2009. Top 20 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 included Grammy Hall of Fame winner 'Walk, Don't Run' which peaked at number two in 1960, 'Hawaii Five-O' which went to number four in 1969, 'Walk, Don't Run' which reached number eight in 1964 and 'Ram-Bunk-Shush' which made it to number 15 in 1961. Their recording of 'Theme from "A Summer Place"' reached number 17 on the Adult Contemporary Songs Chart in 1969 and 'Main Theme from "The Young and the Restless"' went to number 47. Guitarist Gerry McGee left in 2017 and early member Nokie Edwards, who also played guitar, died in 2018. They were admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and they released 'The Ventures Live' in 2012.
