The Union Underground

The Union Underground was formed in 1996 in San Antonio, Texas, by vocalist and guitarist Bryan Scott, guitarist Patrick Kennison, bassist John Moyer, and drummer Josh Memolo. Their early work was produced in a home studio, Studio Underground, where they released a cassette EP that attracted the attention of Hollywood manager James Jeda and led to a contract with Portrait Records, a division of Sony’s Columbia label. The band’s debut studio album, ...An Education in Rebellion, was issued on 18 July 2000; it remained on the charts for four months and the single "Turn Me On ‘Mr. Deadman" entered mainstream rock playlists for six months, selling an estimated 350 000 copies. Their single "Across the Nation" was adopted as the theme for WWE Raw from 2002 to 2006, providing nationwide exposure. A live compilation, Live…One Nation Underground, followed in June 2002, after which Portrait folded and the band disbanded. After a brief hiatus, Bryan Scott reassembled The Union Underground in 2016, announcing a new lineup. In 2023 the group launched the Back to the 2000s tour with SOiL, Ra and Flaw, and in 2025 co‑headlined the 25 Years of Rebellion and Callousness Tour with Spineshank, marking a return to touring life.
