The Tempters, a Japanese rock band formed in 1966, were part of Japan's Group Sounds pop music era. The group consisted of Keizo "Kenichi" Hagiwara on vocals and harmonica, Yoshiharu Matsuzaki on lead guitar and vocals, Toshio Tanaka on rhythm guitar and organ, Takaku Noburu on bass, and Hiroshi Oguchi on drums. Their breakthrough came with the release of their EP エメラルドの伝説 ("Emerald - No Densetsu") in June 1968, which topped the Japanese charts for two weeks and remained in the top 10 for 13 weeks, selling over one million copies. The success of "Emerald - No Densetsu" established The Tempters as a major force in the Japanese rock scene. Following this initial triumph, the band released their debut full-length album First Album in June 1968, which further solidified their popularity. Their subsequent album 5-1=0/ザ・テンプターズの世界 (July 1969) continued to showcase their musical prowess. The Tempters disbanded in December 1970. However, their influence persisted through posthumous releases like The Tempters Super Selection (June 1999) and The Tempters: Complete Singles (November 1999). Both Oguchi and Hagiwara went on to successful acting careers.
