The Squadronaires

The Squadronaires, a Royal Air Force band also known as The Royal Air Force Dance Orchestra, was formed in 1939 during World War II to boost morale among troops. Initially led by Jimmy Miller, the band recorded on the Decca label with hits like "There's Something in the Air" and "South Rampart Street Parade". After the war, Ronnie Aldrich took over as bandleader, renaming it to Ronnie Aldrich and The Squadronaires. In 1985, a new big band orchestra was organized under the title "The Royal Air Force Squadronaires," led by Sgt. Jamie Deighton. The band has since recorded albums like Big Band Spectacular and performed at notable events, including the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance in 2004.
