The Soft Boys, a British proto-punk and power-pop band, were formed in 1976 in Cambridge by Robyn Hitchcock. The group initially consisted of Hitchcock on vocals and guitar, Andy Metcalfe on bass, Morris Windsor on drums, and Alan Davies on guitar. They released their first single "Give It to the Soft Boys" in July 1977 through Raw Records. In 1978, Kimberley Rew replaced Davies on guitar. The band's debut album A Can of Bees was released in 1979, followed by Underwater Moonlight in 1980. Despite critical acclaim, the group disbanded in 1981 due to lack of commercial success. They reformed briefly in 1994 and again in the early 2000s, releasing their third album Nextdoorland in 2003. The Soft Boys are recognized for their influence on subsequent artists, including R.E.M. and The Replacements.
